According to the “Canadian Press,” Health Canada testing has detected bisphenol A (BPA)—an alleged endocrine disruptor found in the linings of metal cans and lids and some plastic food and beverage containers—in baby foods in glass jars with metal lids and in some 18.5-litre polycarbonate bottles of drinking water, but it says the levels are low and pose no health or safety concerns. A plastic coating is used on some metal lids to prevent corrosion of the metal and contamination of the food.
