According to the “Globe and Mail,” although the Canadian federal government made international headlines last year when it added bisphenol A (BPA), an alleged hormone-disrupting plastic chemical, to the country’s toxic substances list, it has quietly stopped issuing new reviews of hazardous chemicals under the program, known as the Chemicals Management Plan, that highlighted the dangers of the plastic-making compound. Under the plan, the government is conducting assessments on about 200 potentially hazardous chemicals used in everyday products. A representative for Minister Prentice says the minister is committed to the plan and evaluations of the chemicals will be released “as soon as possible.”
