According to the “Ottawa Citizen,” although many people spend money on bottled water, the “stuff in plastic water bottles may be more harmful than anything in our tap water.” Certain plastic bottles allegedly contain an estrogen-mimicking chemical called bisphenol A (BPA), which has been linked to breast and ovarian cancers and childhood developmental problems. According to the article, the pollution from plastic affects our air, land, and water, as many plastic bottles end up in landfills or get incinerated, burning plastic releases toxic chemicals into the air, and plastic can take hundreds of years to break down, and even then, the material “doesn’t completely biodegrade.”
