Rising Bottled Water Sales in US Concern Conservationists

According to the “International Herald Tribune,” rising sales of bottled water (reaching $11.7 billion in 2007 in the U.S.), is concerning U.S. conservationists, who cite issues such as: energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, waste, the environmental effect of water extraction, the perils of privatization and social issues. According to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 20 percent of water bottles are reportedly recycled in the U.S.
