Mountain Equipment Co-op’s Decision to Pull Polycarbonate Bottles Continues to Spark Controversy

The Vancouver Sun reports on the decision by Mountain Equipment Co-op to pull Nalgene water bottles, which were reportedly once “sold as a safer alternative to other forms of plastic,” from store shelves. Some environmental groups are calling such polycarbonate plastic bottles “a hazard,” because they allegedly leach a potentially harmful chemical called bisphneol A (BPA) into foods or beverages contained.
