According to the Gotham Gazette, the Nalgene water bottles pulled from Mountain Equipment Co-op earlier this month are made of bisphenol A (BPA), “a type of plastic that has been linked with infertility, lower sperm counts, enlarged prostrate glands, pre-cancerous lesions in breast and prostate tissue, and other symptoms of hormone disruption.”

The Canadian National Post reports Lulu Lemon, a popular yoga and fitness apparel retail chain, is the second large Canadian retailer (following Mountain Equipment Co-op) to stop selling water bottles containing bisphenol A. The Toronto based Environmental Defense group reportedly “expects other large Canadian retailers to follow suit soon.”
