According to the Frederick News Post, reusing plastic water bottles bottles may not be healthy, as they may break down and leach chemicals, such as bisphenol A (BPA), into the water. The article further reports about “40 percent of bottled water is really filtered tap water,” and plastics allegedly take a heavy toll on the environment, using more than 10 million barrels of crude oil per year to make plastic water bottles, according to the Earth Policy Institute, and taking up to 1,000 years to biodegrade (according to the Container Recycling Institute).
