DallasNews.com reports that “the Bush administration is developing a chemical testing program that favors the chemical industry when it comes to judging whether certain substances in the environment might cause cancer, infertility, or harm to babies in the womb.” According to the article, this study may prove to be a “$76 billion waste” due to the alleged biases. A few hormone-disrupting chemicals, such as bisphenol A, reportedly found in the linings of some food cans, have already received media and scientific attention due to the possibility that such chemicals may have adverse effects on human health. The article reports that although the EPA has previously declared safe levels for some chemicals, some scientists allegedly think that the agency’s levels are too high.
