Official Calls for Ban on Bisphenol A

According to The Suburban, bisphenol A (BPA), a “toxic substance found in many household goods [that] is still widely used in North America and Europe,” allegedly leaches into foods and beverages and may be linked to lowered sperm counts, increased risks of infertility, breast and prostate cancer, neurological disorders and obesity. Lac St. Louis MP Francis Scarpaleggia has introduced a private member’s bill to the House of Commons last Friday calling for a ban on the chemical. Some are comparing the response by the chemical industry to the tobacco industry, saying that “For the industry there’s never a problem … We have to wait for more people to get sick before we do anything.”
