Contractor Fired Due to Ties with Chemical Industry

The Washington Post reports that Sciences International (SI) was recently fired due allegations that the contractor, which was hired to review the safety of certain chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA), has been simultaneously working for the chemical industry. SI held a reported $5 million, five-year contract to run the federal Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction to evaluate more than 20 chemicals as to whether they pose dangers to reproduction and newborn babies. According to scientific reports posted on this website, bisphenol A is found in some plastics and can packaging and may cause abnormal hormone development.
