Ontario Labeling Law Targets Phthalates

According to Ontario-based CBC News, an Ontario NDP (New Democratic Party) leader is aiming to pass the Community Right to Know Act, which would “require manufacturers to put a label on any product that contains a chemical known or suspected to cause cancer.” CBC News further reports that phthalates, chemicals used as plastics softeners, are included in the list of potentially toxic chemicals that would require labeling. According to some scientists, phthalates have the potential to migrate into foods and beverages, altering their original composition.
