Consumers Protest at Target to get rid of PVC Plastics Packaging

According to this article, protesters formed outside of the Target department store in Wheaton, Maryland, to protest the use of PVC, a chemical used in plastics packaging, in the products the store sells. In response to the protest, Target reportedly issued a statement, claiming that the company is looking into alternatives to the PVC (polyvinyl chloride) chemical. The article further mentions that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has linked PVC to several health and environmental problems, and that the chemical used to produce PVC, a phthalate called DEHP, allegedly has serious impacts on human health. According to the article, the FDA recommended that companies start using alternatives to PVC packaging back in 2002.
