Whole Foods’ Stance on Bisphenol A and The Company’s Dedication to Protecting Customers

Whole Foods, an upscale grocery chain featuring a variety of organic products and produce, is aware of the growing body of scientific research that “suggests that small amounts of BPA [bisphenol A] may leach into foods or beverages stored in polycarbonate containers, especially when the contents are acidic, high in fat, or heated.” The company claims to be committed to protect its customers who are concerned about the connection between BPA and other chemical compounds, such as phthalates.

On the Whole Foods website, the company addresses the growing concern over BPA (a chemical compound used to create polycarbonate plastic, which is used a lot in food and beverage containers), its possible effects on the integrity of the foods and beverages it packages, and the alleged research that claims BPA acts as an endocrine disrupter, a “substance which mimics natural human hormones.”
