The article “Pollution in People,” reported by the Ottawa Citizen, makes the link between chemicals we ingest at birth and the increased rates of disease. According to the article, “Infants start life polluted with PCBs, pesticides and 200 industrial chemicals. Rocket fuel laces their mother’s breast milk. Carcinogens, hormone disruptors and the chemicals used to make GOR-TEX and Teflon infuse everyone’s blood.”

The article further claims that during the past 50 years, breast cancer incidence has climbed 90 percent, lung cancer rates have jumped more than 600 percent, asthma is on the rise and non-Hodgkins lymphoma has increased a staggering 250 percent.
